More cuts in FTE's

Something is going on with a last minute purge in FTE's -- a mere week before school starts. Schools got a directive to cut more teachers. There is a pow wow on this at PIC on Saturday. Communications haven't been crystal clear on this one. Everyone feel free to chime in with what you know. I talked to one principal who wasn't happy about all this at all.

Brilliant, just when the economy needs educated locals to step into the job market, we’ll cut education.

I think it is convienent that we are cutting teachers, but that we are advertising the fact that we want to hire 46 government workers! Something is wrong with this picture!

After all that hoopla about HQT, I'm amazed that PSS is generally ok with getting administrators and other teachers to fill these vacancies. I thought we were expected to be "highly qualified" to teach specific subjects? Something fishy is going on here. That article that ran a few days back about principals teaching and running their schools was right - how are they going to do that and be effective in both settings? I know that just writing my lessons and finding the best activities can take up so much of my time - now tell me that these administrators can seriously do it?
Ok - I'm rambling. Happy First Day Back to all and to all a very good year!
